Adventures in Science Summer Camp

Presented by Flint RiverQuarium and Thronateeska Heritage Center
with special collaboration with
Darton State College

Join us on a whirlwind adventure through nature as we explore our environment through dinosaur digs, science experiments, animal encounters, canoeing, rock wall climbing and blasting off into outer space. Check out all of these fun-filled camps and more to prepare for an outrageous summer! A typical session includes crafts, games, exhibit tours, animal encounters, snacks, and a t-shirt.

Dinosaur Camp

Did you know that the word “Dinosaur” literally means “terrible lizard?” We will introduce the campers to the wondrous world of dinosaurs! Step into our Earth’s dynamic past with fossils, dinosaur eggs and volcanoes. Discover the actual size of these enormous creatures and come face to face with their closest living relatives. View descendants of the flying dinosaurs in the Flint RiverQuarium Aviary. We look forward to a “Dino-mite” camp with our future paleontologists.

Camp Aquatica

Whether you are looking for fun science experiments or outdoor water activities, this is the camp for you! Nestled in the heart of southwest Georgia sits Radium Springs, one of the “Seven Wonders of Georgia.” Your camper can experience a simulated Blue Hole spring at the Flint RiverQuarium, water-based science activities at Thronateeska and paddling in a very unique ecosystem of Radium Springs with the Outdoor Education Program of Darton State College. Campers will learn all about water, one of Earth’s most important resources, conduct science experiments and tests, explore local water history and ecology, get up close and personal with water critters, and “cool down” in the water with fun games and activities. Your camper will also “soak” up all the fun and knowledge about the Flint River, Georgia’s longest river, with us this summer. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity!  Be prepared to be outdoors, indoors, and in the water. Sun protection is encouraged.  All transportation to and from venues will be provided.
